Chapter 6: Communication

Here, we explain the different channels we use for communication, how you can get in touch with us, and what we expect from you in terms of communication.

Gmail

Upon joining us, we will provide an @plainviewresearch.com email address that can be accessed using Google Mail. This should primarily be used for formal communications - including daily reporting of work, informing us of unexpected absences, or any other high-importance issues.

Slack

We complete the majority of day-to-day communication and tracking of projects using Slack. Upon joining us, we will send you a link to access our Slack workspace. Once you have used this link to set up an account, you can use this URL to download the Slack desktop application. Please use Slack to quickly ask us any questions or inform us of any problems you encounter. We will use Slack to, co-ordinate meetings, inform you of any changes in work priorities, to supply feedback, and to track progress on certain projects.

Daily Reporting

We ask that all research analysts send us an email when they log in and log off each day, in order for us to keep track of our progress and to better understand the rate research is being completed. See below for examples of log in / log off emails.

Upon logging in:

Meetings

We will regularly have at least two meetings per week to provide any feedback, answer questions, and discuss the overall direction of work in the near-term. These are helpful to ensure that we are aligned in terms of strategy and workflow. We will try to maintain consistency in terms of when we host these meetings, but this will not always be possible. In such cases, we will inform you of meeting times via Slack.

Arranging Holidays and Time Off

To schedule any time off, please inform us over e-mail, ideally with at least a week’s advance notice. Once this is approved, please add an event to your Google Calendar stating that you are out of office for the specific date(s) you will not be working, with Alex (alex@plainviewresearch.com) and Ekaterina (ekaterina@plainviewresearch.com) on the CC.
